Tourist Tips

1 - Wear comfortable shoes.
2 - Pay with cash and keep it in a safe place.
then keep emergency cash in an even safer place.
3 - Look where you are walking, no one likes to get ran into! ;)
4 - Learn language basics.
Don't be afraid to ask strangers for help!
5 - Get a practical bag that will hold your belongings, & keep a good eye on it.
I'm loving my new ONA bag.
6 - Wear your camera around your shoulder, it will relieve neck pain.
It will also help you look like less of a 'tourist'!
7 - Figure out your route before leaving & keep the hotel's card on you.
It will have the address on it, just in case you get lost. "Helllp!"
8 - Eat out early, or late - it will help avoid long waits and crowds.
9 - Use apps on your phone, rather than a physical map.
Less to carry & less 'tourist-y'.
10 - Don't be afraid to explore!
Pay attention & snap photos of land marks along the way,
it will help you find your way back!

  4. Hailey,
Thanks for the tips! I'll remember them in two weeks when I'm in the Philippines. I may need to get myself a bag like that for when we go to Canada, Australia and NZ. It looks like a must!

P.S. I looove that lens, we want that one! Can I request a post on tips for filming while being a tourist? Since you're the expert.. :)

  5. I use a Custom SLR glide strap and I LOVE IT! I would never go back to the neck straps. It definitely makes you look less "touristy" Here's the link for it: :)

  6. Only tip missing is what lens you suggest for travel! I'm always so torn when packing. I want to have flexibility and use my favorites like my 85mm, 50mm, and 35mm but I know I should probably just stick with my kit lens (18-55) just because of versatility and it keeps my bag light. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. :)

  7. Love the cute video Haiz! Love/Miss you!!

  8. Perfect timing! I was just thinking the other day, "I wish Hailey would do a travel tips post!" I'm headed on a European tour on the 15th for 3 and 1/2 weeks. :) Keep the tips and tricks coming!
